I love science and geology. There is something really cool about understanding how the Earth we live on operates, what it looked like millions of years in the past, and how the landscapes we see today came to be. I also really enjoy sharing this passion with students, and helping them see that geology is relevant to their lives in many ways, whether it be through the mineral resources they depend on, the changing climates they are experiencing, or their daily energy needs. There are also many things that science can tell us about teaching and learning, and empirical evidence supports the efficacy of many classroom teaching practices in promoting student learning. As such, I try to be cognizant of the practices I use in the classroom to maximize student learning and ensure that when students leave my classroom as societal decision makers, they are as geoscience literature as possible.
Below are a list of the courses I have taught as either lead instructor or teaching assistant. Courses for which I have designed lessons or overhauled an entire course to include research based instructional strategies are also listed below. These courses I taught or ones where I assisted another instructor in the redesign process.
